Living with dignity from one's work, in town and in the village
The high cost of living, the price of cocoa, illegal gold mining, evictions: the URD speaks for those who face these difficulties every day, and puts forward solutions.
The prices of basic necessities keep rising. Cocoa farmers, who create so much of the country’s wealth, are angry at a price they consider too low. Illegal gold mining is destroying farmland and rivers. Families are evicted with no rehousing solution.
For the URD, growth means nothing unless it shows up on families’ plates and in producers’ incomes.

What we propose
Our proposals for purchasing power
Proposal 1
A fair and transparent price for farmers
A farm-gate price set in consultation with producers’ organisations, based on a public formula linked to world prices.
Proposal 2
Control over the prices of basic necessities
An independent price observatory and effective control of margins on staple goods.
Proposal 3
A national plan against illegal gold mining
Protect farmland and water, sanction the networks, and offer the young people involved legal job alternatives.
Proposal 4
No eviction without rehousing
Operations announced in advance, fair compensation and a rehousing solution in place before any demolition.
Proposal 5
Local public services
Schools, health centres and rural roads: public investment must reach every village.
Those in power must hear the discontent that is rumbling and smouldering in the country.
Danièle Boni-Claverie, President of the URD
